I have a strange problem!
I wanted to cut and paste an icon for an application from my desktop to a folder in My Documents. This application also had an icon pinned to the Start Menu.
When I clicked 'Paste' to paste the icon into the folder in My Documents, the screen went blank (no beeping) and all of the icons on my desktop AND the entire taskbar (including the Start Menu) disappeared and suddenly came back!
So...I noticed that there was a gap between my clock and the last icon in my taskbar. I went to the Customize option for the taskbar and there were all the icons of the applications that I had running...except there was one icon that was a folder which said <no title>. I clicked to hide this icon and the gap between my clock and the last taskbar icon disappeared.
Next...I noticed that when I opened the Run box, my last command had disappeared (as it usually always says what the last command that I ran was).
Does anyone know what happened? Should I be worried? :'(
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm not an expert. I really hope that it's not a big deal. Thanks:)

Jäger, SWAG, possible that you needed to first 'drag' the icon someplace like desktop, then copy and paste or maybe better yet, create a shortcut and copy/paste that into the desired folder(Maybe you can create a shortcut in place?)?
Seems to me that if you skip the 'drag' step, you'll end up trying to access the same icon in two different places. Could that have opened a 'blank' space?

Hey, Ed! Thanks for the quick response:)
I dunno...I think that the blank tiny <no title> folder is actually the Yahoo Messenger Icon that has somehow become invisible. Heh.
You're right...I shouldn't have gone that route...whatever happened, it's not seeming to affect anything that I can see at the moment. We shall wait until I reboot, I suppose. Fingers crossed she starts up fine:) Thanks again!

This sounds like explorer.exe crashed, and restarted. If it was a flicker it could simply be an update, but if it disappeared and reappeared I'd say it was a crash.
What I recommend rather than trying this approach would be:
Is there a *.ico file associated with the program that you can browse to? If so copy this file like any other. You can even load this into a graphics program that recognizes .ico files. However many exe's have this compressed inside it and may not be accessible. If so try this:
Get a decent capture program, I recommend Irfanview, since its a good image tool also.
capture the screen or window with the icon. Once loaded in irfanview, crop it to the proper icon size. Then save it as a .ico file.
