I have a western digital hd, 7200rpm, 160gb, on a pentium 4 computer. The regular speed of the hd is 50mb/sec

Almost every morning when i turn the computer on, the speed of the hd is 4mb/sec.
I use windows restore point to restore the computer to the day before and the speed is immidiatly back at 50mb/sec.

What is happening? Why is the hd speed dropping by 10 times?

Anyone have any ideas...

Thanks in advance !!

Might use the OEM software to test. See what WD offers to test their drives or get something like the ultimate boot disk.

Have you tried reinstalling windows. Try to shut down all programs that start with windows and see if that helped in the performanece issue with the Hard Drive.
