Last night before I left to goto dinner I started encoding a movie. I do the same thing every night with no problems at all. When I got home last night my computer was locked up(Mouse wont move, cant ctrl+alt+del), had to do a cold re-boot. When my computer re-booted or tried to it only came up with a black screen. So I tried to re-boot again. I have a SOYO motherboard that has a feather called 'Voice Doctor'. Its just like any other mother that when it has a boot problem it will give a series of beeps, w/ VD instead of beeps a voice will tell you what the problem is. Well it would be cool if you could tell what it is saying. Anyways when looking in the manual it says that the voice will tell you errors like:

The cpu is damaged or not inserted properly

The video card is damaged or not inserted properly

RAM is damaged or not inserted properly

My question is....if it was the RAM or CPU shouldnt I still be able to get into the BIOS????? Im thinking its something to do with the Vid. card seeing how i cant see anything when booting.

Ive taken the vid.card, CPU and RAM out and tried re seating it with no luck.

Does anyone have any options I can do to track down this problem????

Thanx guys/gals

If you think its your V-card why not borrow one from a friend or see if he's got an old one lying around. You can use an old PCI V-card to check even. But i'd try atleast to differnt cards if one don't work the first time. S.A.,TX

Acully I did try a diffrent card(pci) it still does the same thing. Sorry i forgot to mention that. Being that its the ram or cpu shouldnt I still be able to get into the BIOS? Can I take the ram and cpu out and still be able to boot????

Never tried that curious to know if it works. You could always borrow some ram from some one. I'd jus' go buy some since its so cheap now. Unless you want a new M/B with the new kndof ram......

My first thought would be take out your old memory and by a new stick and try it. If you have a bad piece of memory then you cannot get into the BIOS.

If that is not the problem then perhaps the cpu got fried. If you have a friend with a similar mobo then check your cpu on his machine. From the sound of it, though, I believe yours is a memory problem. Good luck.

One of my computers has a soyo motherboard and sometime when I am playing hardcore 3D games it will lock up with just a black screen.... The Dianostic stuff says the processor is bad..... But if I take the processor out.... and reinsert it then it boots up fine.... And no if your processor, momory is bad you wont get to the BIOS screen. it wont do anything.....I dont have this problem anymore becuase I upgraded and gave the soyo to my daughter....
