strange msn messenger problem

I've had msn messenger 6 working fine on my computer until about two weeks ago when it decided to act very strangely...some contacts on my messenger cannot see any of my messages but i can see what they type, this doesn't happen with every contact only a few. Also i cannot send or recieve files and my display picture doesn't update itself for a while when i change it. I have no firewall and the built in xp firewall is switched off! i uninstalled messenger 6 about five times as well as installing the 6.1 beta version but still no luck. anyone know whats up?

Have you ran any anti-virus software lately? This same thing happened to me a few years back and after I ran my a/v software it cleaned up the problem.
