Ive been having a strange problem lately. My mouse will sometimes either stop working or freeze for a sec then jump to another part of the window. Also Ive noticed that my floppy drive doesn't work anymore.

Originaly I tried to re-install windows, and wipe the drives. Which lead to my usb ports craping out. So I switched back to the good ol' PS2 port, but... same problem.

So I figure it's the motherboard. I just purchased a new one, fired it up. But it's still happening (although the usb works again) the mouse is still freezing.

Can anyone help. I've run every virus/trojan/spyware/adware software I can think of. and nothing...

Is it a virus? A bios virus? Im stumped.

Presuming the mouse itself is not mucky inside (incl. the rollers having little bands of crud... )

This sounds a little like an irq conflict???
Check that irq assignments are not conflicting between the rodent and other bits'n pieces?

Floppy-drive: check it's enabled in the bios?

Its an optical mouse. The floppy is enabled. but on boot it gives me a message;
Floppy unreadable (40) or something of the like.

Good Idea with the Irq, I'll check that

Ummm...

Are there any settings re' mobo setup that you may have missed?

Are there any settings is the bios that have been tweaked/altered (indvertantly)?

Mobo sockets/connectors all secure?

It could be the mobo - they are not always perfect when they arrive?

Did this problem arrive as sooon as the mobo was fired up and the OS installed?

Which query incidentally prompts "the thort..." - was the OS (XP?) installed via this mobo??? A rather critical item. If it wasn't then it may well be cause of your problems.

Generally XP installed via one mobo etc. cannot be easily transferred to another mobo/system without problems. Usually it won't boot, and the usual resolution to such a transfer of installation is to run the XP repair installation routine. You may have been lucky to quite a degree if you have transferred an XP installed drive to another/new mobo and got it to boot as far, as well, as it does...?
