Hi all. I'm having a very terrible and strange monitor problem. It might be confusing, so pay attenion. Here goes.
Sunday Night, I decided to take the monitor for my desktop computer, and plug it into my laptop. I did that. When I turned the laptop on, you could hear the monitor come on (tube monitor). Then after a split second, the monitor's LED flashed like it does when it's asleep. I never saw a picture. But when the Windows XP Welcome Screen appeared, the monitor came on for a few seconds. But while it was on, everything was a very purple color. Then the monitor went off. So the next day, I plugged the monitor back into my old computer. I turned the computer on, and the monitor came on, but everything was a purplish color! This monitor had always worked good on the desktop computer! So I changed a few bios settings on the laptop, plugged the monitor back into the laptop, and everything worked fine! So I turned the laptop off, plugged it back in to my old desktop computer, and everythings purplish again. Plugged the monitor back in to the laptop, and the purplish colors are there again. Tried the monitor on another desktop computer, and still the same thing. I have tried changing the color settings on the monitor, and computers, but nothing has worked. I would appreciate your advice on how I can get the odd color tint off the monitor. The monitor is a Korea Data Systems 15" color monitor. The serial number is 0562055943 and the model number is 3200. The manufacture date is May 1996. Thanks alot!
PLEASE NOTE WELL: I HAVE PLUGGED THIS MONITOR INTO THE LAPTOP BEFORE WITH NO PROBLEMS.

The age of the monitor should be a big clue here, 9 years old it's time to be pensioned off. Bin it...

yes but he says it worked fine before on the desktop and finally on the laptop, but not when he put it back on the desktop??
sound like it could be a video card issue to me,or the refresh rate may of changed?
Check that the drivers didnt somehow get corupt for the video card??" IF IT AINT BROKE - LEAVE IT ALONE "

Its the 15-pin sub VGA cable 110 % sure. You can't change it, but some TV / monitor service center can. Try twisting it stretching it etc. I can even tell you that its the yellow wire that is dammaged inside the cable (if it has standard coloured wires). Its a nasty problem consider buying a new (even used) monitor if charge of fixing it is too big.
And if you have RGB cable (sony trinitron for example) you can change it by yourself if you can find one. Also make sure that connector pins are not dammaged it will yield same resoult.Good luck.

Thing i didnt mentioned. If the monitor is from 1996 i can just imagine in what condition are the rubber cables on it. Also the monitor phosphor after 8 years is nearly at his end (depends how much has been used) but i am sure it wont last another 4 years.

Perhaps its the cable. It goes purplish inconsistently, so after shifting it around, the wires could disconnect. It's an old monitor, maybe its time to get a new one. They are very cheap now.

Dejan Balalovski was 100% sure, and he was 100% right! That indeed was what the problem was. Well, it might not last another 4 years, but maybe it will until I can get a new one. Thanks for all the help guys!
Learn how to use DOS. It may be your life saver in restoring Windows. It was me!
