Strange Lockup Problem

For a short while now, while playing certain 3D games, I will lose control of the game character through the direction keys and the mouse and if the character was moving when the problem occured they will keep moving such as into a wall or something. I will hear a beep from the computer itself ,but the program keeps playing even though I can't control the character any longer. This is really strange as I have never had this happen before. Thank you.

This may not be much help but are you using a wireless keyboard? I have had some trouble with wireless keyboards and games. I had the same problem because my keyboard would stop communicating with the reciever during a game.

No, standard hardwired keyboard and mouse, mouse is usb though.
