Strange, can only login on Google

Specs: Windows 7 Home Prem, Intel Core 2 duo 2.0 ghz/ 4GB
Hello all. Please ignore the specs above they are for my laptop, but I am writing on behalf of my b/f's PC.

I am not sure of his specs, but I do know it has 2 GB RAM and is running XP (not sure if it is home or pro).

Anyway, my question is as such...
He recently did a clean install of XP and had all the proper programs for protection on his PC and he cannot get anywhere on it except igoogle and sometimes his Gmail. He cannot go anywhere else on the net, tells him cannot connect to server.
Now, he is running it via wireless and did not have issues before. All drivers are updated, connection is strong, everything is fine. When he goes on igoogle, it connects to it very quickly. But the Gmail and the rest of the net, NOTHING. He runs a dual-boot PC, one for net, other for strictly his recording software (offline completely) as he is a musician.

He has:
Trojan Remover
Malware Immunizer
Zone Alarm
Avira A/V

I have all the same (except Zone Alarm, I use windows 7 firewall) and I seem to have NO problem with my laptop.

He has reinstalled his O/S a few times and same issue...
Does anyone have a clue as to what could be doing this???

He just got done formatting his step-fathers PC and installing XP and all the same protection and he has NO issues.

Thank you to anyone that can be of assistance.

1. ... he cannot get anywhere on it except igoogle and sometimes his Gmail ...

Is your BF using Google Gears that allows the Google faithfuls to access Gmail with using internet (it's still a mystery to me anyway)? If so he may have toggle the OFFLINE/ONLINE option.

HEY XPUser...

He does not use Google Gears.
He said this problem came out of NOWHERE, never had this ever before.

Also what do you mean toggle the offline/online option?? He is on a PC.

Please advise, he is going out of his mind and he DOES know PC's, but this is mind blowing.
I am on the phone with him right now, he disabled Zone Alarm and BAM he is online!!! BUT, all of a sudden this is an issue?? All settings are set properly, etc. He never had this problem before.

Do you think it is safe to trust just the firewall on the router?? This is VERY important as his recording software on the other partition is his livelyhood.

Thanks XPuser...

ZA? We have been getting a lot of post negating this brand of FW. Use alternative such as Comodo Internet Security ot Online Armor Free.

Ohhh?? You have??? I didn't know that. I haven't been here for a long time, TY for that.
But, now he is still having trouble, it worked for a bit and now nothing again...this is strange. Even with ZA off.

He is not having a good night with this...yikes!
