Hi all.

I have my mail and all my mail folders go direct the slave drive via a short cut from C Drive.

This is very convenient because I swap H.D.'s with various O.S's whenever the mood takes me and I can still access my mail.

Unfortunately so far I have not found a way to store my "favorites" on the slave to access by means of a short cut on C drive.

Is this possible, to store 'Favorites' on the slave and access them via a shortcut on C drive?

If so, please advise as to how I would go about doing this.

Regards

Go to the folder and right click on it. Then select "Send To" and then click on "Desktop as Shortcut.”

If it does not send the shortcut to the C:\ desktop, then you can go to the other desktop folder, cut the shortcut, and move it to the C:\ desktop manually.

download TweakUI from Microsoft. This has a function that allows you to change the location of a number of "Special" folders of which Favourites as just one.

You can also change the location of My Documents, Start Menu and the Send to Folder.

Hi Janset, FJ, Stuart, hello everyone,

Browse to the following location in the registry;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
User Shell Folders

In the right pane you will see Favorites.

Double click on that to change the Value to the path you wish to store your Favorites. Mine for example is F:\Favorites

You will need to restart the computer after making the change and then copy the Favorites from it's current location to the new one.

Any new Favorites will then be added in the new location.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi guys.

Thanks for the input guys. Mesich, yours sounds like the most suitable for my application.

Have you had any problems with C Drive after the Registry change?

Just as a point Mesich, I have no knowledge of Registry editing and as such I really need to be walked through.

I navigated to Favorites as you instructed but when I clicked on it to open it I got the following:

%USERPROFILE%\Favorites

This is where I come to a grinding halt. How do I go about changing the path you suggested?

Incidentally, my slave is also F drive :-)

Hi Janset,

Although the solution proposed by Mesich will work it is prone to difficulties. If you are not familiar with the registry I would leave it alone. Make a mistake and your installation could be clobbered.

I would hazard a guess and say that the reason you are getting something different is because you have more than one user registered on your machine where Mesich and I only have one. The HKEY_CURRENT_USER key changes every time a different user logs on.

Probably best if you use the TweakUI method. Thats works and it is more user friendly.

Hi StewartS

No, I am the only user on my PC and have administrative rights invoked.

I tried the TweekUI method but found that when I transferred the short cuts across and then went to use it, clicking onto the favorites (from the desktop) I got everything that is on the slave, all folders and zipped programs that I store there.

I tried several different approaches but still got the same result. After a while I was so confused that I no longer remembered what I had done or what/how I had moved files and folder.

As a result, I finished up doing a Restore (or a re-Ghost) can't remember which to get things back to where I was at to begin with.

I must say that I do not usually have so much trouble as I am familiar with the moving of files and creating short cuts, but this time......?

I suspect that what you did was just designate F:\ as the favourites, which is just the root folder. You have to create a new folder called Favourites. Copy your favourites into this folder and then use TweakUI to point to the folder.

Hi StuartS.

I did as you said, but I did not use TweakUI afterwards to point it to there, so you could be right.

I will give it a go again as time permits.

Damn these computer, they take up far too much time!
