I'm sure this will become obvious, but this is my first post, so please forgive me if I havent followed ettiquet to the letter.
Can somebody Please please help! - I have the following Hardware:
Windows XP Professional running on:
Gigabyte GA-8SRX motherboard - SiS 645 chipset
Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz (northwood) - retail box with intel Fan.
256 MB DDR RAM
Segate 60GB HDD 7200 RPM
Sony CDRW
Creative Blaster Geforce 3 Titanium 200 (64MB)
Microsoft Wireless Desktop (keyboard & mouse)
HP Deskjet 3820
I've been using the above pc config for about 2 months no problems, then suddenly, I started to get a message on POST saying BIOS WIDE RANGE PROTECTION ERROR (I have the gigabyte dual bios thing) and this seemed to completely nacker the op system with a BSOD and something about missing or corrupt windows files.I restarted several times and finally the PC booted without complaining (with me having done nothing at all to attempt to fix the problem) - This was just the start of my grief:
Ever since, I have suffered sporadic re-starts, where XP restarts and says it has recovered from a serious error, reporting it to Microsoft, results in a Knowledge Base article popping up (I think its called windows online crash analysis) saying the prob was caused by a device driver but they cant be more specific) - I Dont think its a driver problem - why has it only just occurred? - but the plot thickens.....
Recently, having read a number of posts on this site, I followed the adivce given to people suffering similar problems with the re-starts, and both un-checked the "restart automatically" thing in my computer - performance, I also turned off my page file and then created a new one. The problem has got worse since and here follows a list of stop errors i have had recently some on booting up, and others whilst in XP:Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive file : \systemroot\system32\config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, absent or not writable.-----------

--------------This is a sample of the stuff I get, freezes on starting XP sometimes, other times, everything stops responding whilst browsing the net - it still restarts whenever it feels like it?
SHEESH! - will somebody please help me - why so many different types of stop message? - why the bios error before it went wrong - is the geforce 3 ti 200 crap or have i got a dodgy motherboard?I give up please help??? !!!!!
