When I turned on my computer this morning, a blue screen of death appeared.
Unmountable_Boot_Volume
0x00000050 (0x81e6ccde, 0x0000000, 0xFC157BF1, 0x000000)I have done my reasearch, and most sites and forums have suggested that I run the Recovery Console from the XP CD. I run it as a boot cd and select (R) repair, but it freezes when it gets to "Examining Startup Environment".
I have not been able to find any information about fixing the problem with out using the recovery console.
Thanking you in advance.

my thoughts are, the above errors refer to the os not being able to load because of the size of your comp, XP minimum requirements to operate effectively are P3550 (absolute minimum, ideal P3800 & above) and 256 ram

You are mostlikly looking at a damaged file system. The only way to repair it is either with the recovery console, OR a third party NTFS Reader/Writer. Like NTFSDOS Pro from www.winternals.com. The problem is that NTFSDOS Pro costs $299. So you might want to do some searching for another program that can read and write to ntfs partitions from DOS.
I have used NTFSDOS Pro several times (I talked my Boss into buying it for me) to fix simalar problems.

try to run scan disk to check errors by newer versions of it like the scandisk of xp or ME or norton 2003 this may help
good luck!

When booting, I receive the options of loading safe mode, normal mode etc. All of the options bring up the following blue screen error message:
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
STOP 0x000000ED (0x80A6FE30, 0xC000009A, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Tried using Windows XP as the boot disk, loads and asks for the following options:Press ENTER to install Windows XP
Press R to go to the recovery consoleWhen trying to use both of these options the system will hang and in the bottom left hand corner it says Examining Startup Environment
Occasionally it will come up with another blue screen with the error message:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREASTOP 0x00000050 (0x81FBE4D6, 0x00000000, 0x0000000, 0xFC157BF1, 0x00000000)
Ntfs.sys ADDRESS FC157BF1 base at FC00000
Datestamp 367dc5d0As this makes it inpossable to access the Recovery Console to run CHKDISK.
I am looking at 3rd party software to fix the error.
Thank you very much for your replies.

this may happens for two reasons:
1) there are a major error in your hardisk especially in the system area and the booting section so this cannot be fixed by self repair which included by windows I think you need to reinstall the windows again after deleting every trace of boot files on the C:\
2) there are problem in your Ram stick that my cause such a thing so please try to send it to be tested
Good luck!
