HI there,

It would seem from my research that this error happens when a program isn't able to execute properly whilst in the Windows kernel.

I copied a lot of likely suspects from one working Windows XP to a memory stick. Then I put the stick into the stricken XP computer and a Windows XP CD into the drive. I then booted from the CD and ran the Recovery Mode.

From Recovery mode, I actually saw that winlogon.exe was actually missing. That wasn't a very nice virus. I replaced that from the USB and got the logon back. But no toolbar.

I started the same process again and replaced the missing explorer.exe.

Now the computer is back up and running. I'm in the process of running an AV scan. Video drivers look screwed. But that'll be easy to fix compared with where I was.

Hope this helps some of you.
