Wondering if anyone can help me.
My system was working fine when one day when I boot the system, it goes in to the windows XP logo and after that an error message comes up saying:
STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file)
/systemroot/system32/config/SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.
Beginnning dump of physical Memory:
and then it begins to count...from 1 to 99.... After counting to 99 the computer reboots itself but goes into the same error...and it keeps on repeating...any ideas. I have a PIII 1ghz, Asus AV7333 MB, 512 Ram. thanks.

Dont use the M$ fix for this... It does not always work!
Boot to the repair console and rename c:\windows\system32\config\software to software.old
copy c:\windows\repair\software to c:\windows\system32\config\software
Reboot the PC.
If your systemroot is c:\winnt the sub winnt for windows.
