Basically I know how to create an autorun CD so that once the CD is inserted the executable file starts up.
When I go to My Computer and click on the CD icon it autoruns the executable file. What I want to know is, if there is a way to stop that from happening.
Basically what I want is a CD that autoruns when inserted but when the CD icon is clicked I want the contents of the CD to be shown instead.
Is there a way to do that?

The CD that i'm trying to make is for people that are not very computer literate.
That's why I need to try and find a way for the contents to automatically appear with out have to right click the CD drive to view files.
Any other suggestions?

I just told you how to. change the settings to reflect what I posted and the autoplay will then open to see the folders in the CD.

What I need is for the contents of the files to appear automatically when the CD drive is clicked. I'm trying to find a way to do that without having to tell everyone how to view the contents. I need to assume that they don't know how to view the contents themselves unless they double click the icon.
Basically what i'm trying to do is create a cd that auto runs the executable file once inserted. But if the setup is cancelled i want users to have the option to click on the cd drive and view the contents.
So far i've only been able to create a cd that auto starts the set up file automatically when ever the cd is inserted and when the cd drive icon is clicked.

I'm not sure you can do that. I don't think you could change your autorun.inf file to even do that. It seems to me the only way is how OtheHill explained it from the way you have things set up.
The only alternative I can think of is to create an .exe setup file that when launches has an option to browse the cd (like most Windows disks have).Internalrage

One thing to do, to prevent Autorun when CD is
inserted is to Hold Down the Left hand SHIFT for
about 15 seconds.

I will try again.
Go to My computer> (CD drive letter)> autoplay> Mixed content> open folder to view files> apply> OK.
This will make that action the default action on THAT optical drive. Repeat for other drive as needed.

It seems you are all missing the OP's point:
"...Basically what i'm trying to do is create a cd that auto runs the executable file once inserted. But if the setup is cancelled i want users to have the option to click on the cd drive and view the contents...", although... that last "click on the cd drive" part does mislead.I will accept the OP's assertion about his ability to create an autorun CD. So... create an autorun MENU, which includes two items:
1 - Setup
2 - Browse ContentsAt the very least, this menu could be a simple HTML file with these linked items.

I don't think I am missing the OP point. Try following my directions. Once you set the drive the autoplay as I described it will continue to do that until reset. The actions I described result in the CD open to the folders and not going any further. Even a mucic CD will only show the song list, not play them. Unless I can't read, that is what the OP requested.
You don't need to perform that each time, if that is what you think. Once and that becomes the default for that drive.

But, Eau deHill, don't you think the OP is wanting to be able to send that cd to people (relatives/friends/clients) to open on their own (other) computer? That's the way I am reading it.
OP sends his CD (by post, courier, whatever) to a number of others. He wants to make it "foolproof" for them:
1 - OP's note says, "Just pop it in"
2 - the Autorun Executable starts
3 - if they cancel, they still automatically get the option to view the contents (files)I've re-read his posts multiple times, and that's my best guess. OP seems to be deliberately holding back from revealing the nature of the project (which would have been very helpful). Another shot-in-the-dark: they are a collection of photos (I know, that's a stretch...).
But the OP may never be back, so...

OK, I see where you are coming from. I was thinking along the lines of tech support for a senior center or something like that.
I can't think of any way short of running a script at start of autorun. If the computer is newer than Win98 I don't think the CD would be able to execute a registry change.

OtheHill: But why the need for a Registry change? Now, you lost me...lol.
OP should not, and I don't think intends to, make changes on somebody else's computer. OP (I think) just wants/needs to tweak a better AutoRun CD.
I just edited myself, aborting a too-lengthy post, because I/we are only guessing at what OP's REAL intentions are -- what is the END-point OP is trying to achieve?
Surely it's not about "clicking the CD icon", that's likely a red herring, nor is it even about stopping his/her own Autorun -- TGIF!!
We will never know, I bet.

The registry edit would be necessary to make the changes required if you are to automate the process. I would even begin to know where to look. If Folks can't master the basic mouse commands then maybe they should touch a computer.

I like justcuz' menu plan.
Or the user could:
winkey-r > x:
[where x is the CD driive letter]
But maybe that's too simple.
