I keep getting this error message, and this is what I've done to combat the problem:
Reformatted and checked the hard drive for errors; checked the RAM with memtest; updated drivers; updated the BIOS; bought a new fan and heatsink; changed graphics card hardware acceleration to none........and STILL this error keeps coming up.
I've recently bought a new USB keyboard and mouse - would these be causing the errors?

While Memtest is a good program, it doesn't always pick up on faults in the higher ranges of your memory. Do you have 2x256 sticks? if so, try removing one and booting. If that fails, try the other stick on it's own.

It's a 512mb stick. I used to have two 128mb sticks in there but it kept freezing up then. Do you know of any other decent memory test apps that might be more accurate?
Cheers,
Dan

There isn't a software tester that is fool proof. I suggest you borrow another stick from somewhere, and try it out. Or, you could pop to your local computer spares store where they might have a h/ware memory tester you can use.
