All right, I've had this issue before and here's the scoop on what I've done:

Problem: Running Windows Update and not beging able to download new updates (I receive a "failed!" command for each attempt Windows makes to download updates).

Solutions (?):
1. I made sure my Norton wasn't running a Firewall.
2. I ISP is AOL Dial-Up
3. Windows Home XP has a firewall with SP2 that I tried turning off but to no avail.

What I've done in the past is I've rebooted my entire PC and it worked fine afterwards. I was able to download SP2 etc. But just recently it has gone back to the old way and says failed! always. (PLUS my printer wont print anything (and this happened exactly when the Update problems began)).

Someone please please assist me in solving this problem once and for all. I'm truly sick and tired of it.

Thanks very much to whomever :)

The problem is probably your AOL dialup ISP.

I suspect that they have a firewall that is preventing you from getting the updates. I bet if you search their site, you can resolve this issue.
