I'm running Win XP Home (SP1) with an Athlon XP1900, 1.6 GHz, 256 MB RAM and USB.
I have an EPSON Perfection 2400 scanner and Canon Powershot S45 digital camera. When I connect the camera or press the start/scan button on the scanner, the respective applications do not launch automatically as they should. The USB connection DOES, however, recognize the peripherals. For instance, when in the Control Panel/Scanners & Cameras applet and the property settings for either the scanner or camera are chosen, I can select the event ("connected" or "start button") and the action ("start" program or "prompt for which program to run").
If I choose the "prompt" option, I WILL receive the dialog to manually select which registered program to run ("ZoomBrowser" in the case of the camera, and "Smart Panel" in the case of the scanner). When I press OK, the program will launch correctly -- no problems.
If, however, I select the dialog check box to "always use this program for this action" and click OK, the NEXT time I try the event, nothings happens!
I've tried everything I can think of, including de-selecting all the startup programs in MSCONFIG and closing some selected XP services (and looking into the registry, which appears correct). This is extremely frustrating.
Any help would be immensely appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
