I wonder if one of you kind folk could help?
Recently I had a bad stroke and lost the use of my left arm. I enabled Sticky Keys on my PC which allowed me to use many of my programmes which require multiple keys to be depressed i.e. PhotoShop. Every so often I just lost it, in spite of the fact that I brought up the dialog box and ticked the Enable option for both Sticky Keys and Toggle Keys and had to go through the whole business of re-enabling it via the Accessability Options icon in the Control Panel.
Now I cannot enable the facility at all. If I tick the Sticky Key/Toggle Key boxes in the Accessability Option dialog window, when I go back to them the ticks are gone and try as I may - ie by pushing the Shift key 5 times - I cannot re-enable this. Any ideas would be very welcome, folks.

Peter

If you aren't logged in as administrator, things like that can happen. Reset your admin password in local security settings, users and groups, users. Then open the control panel, right click on accessibility while holding the shift key, left click on runas and choose administrator. Enter the password and make the changes.

Thanks for your reply, quapo. I have gone into 'User Accounts' and my name is there listed as 'Administrator' If I open 'Accessability' as you suggest, I am presented with 'Current User' which states my name, then the box Protect My Computer From Unauthorized Activity is also checked, Under this, 'The Following User' is un-checked and the word 'Administrator' below that greyed-out. Any attempt to alter the settings in the Accessability Options panel fails, even though I've checked 'Apply' and OK.

Hope all this makes sense to you!!

Warmest regards

Peter

For some reason, it doesn't matter if your account is already listed as an admin account. Secondly, I made a mistake on where to reset the Admin password.

Start run, compmgmt.msc , press enter. Go to users and groups, users, highlight admistrator, click action, set password. After you set the password, open the control panel, hold the shift key, right click on accessibility and choose runas. At that point, you will be able to make your changes and they should stay.
