Steps to formatt

Specs: Windows XP, 1.20
Hello, I just got a Windows XP cd from my friend an would like to formatt my pc ( i did not have the original cd, that came with my pc), My question is, What are the steps to formatt it and if i really have to save BIOS and drives. I have heard a lot of having to save this when formatting, if so, how can i do this? Thanks.

Its easy to format first make sure the first drive to boot is floopy second drive cd rom third one is your hdd this can be done through bios hit f2 when pc starts and try to look 'boot sequence or boot device priority or similar.Insert your bootable disc in cd rom they message appear press any key to boot after that follow simple instructions its very easy trust me.

Bios is rom 'read only memory' you can't save bios but you can update bios.

I forgot to mention that on the XP cd I am trying to use, I don't see any serial number or license key.
Will I be asked to enter it when formatting?
