Ok ive been working on this problem i'm having with my computer for the past 2 days now. Leading up to this problem, my computer had begun running extremely slow compared to what it used to run at... so I had planned on reformatting my hard drive and backed up all my data on my external hard drive. So anyway, after I finish doing that coincidentally, thats when the problem gets worse. The computer shuts down with the msg:
"C:\windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpecetdly with status code 1073741819"
and then goes into a 60 second countdown before shutting down. This happens everytime i boot the computer in normal mode, but not when im booting it in safe mode which is how i'm able to post right now. I've been researching methods to fix this problem for a while but nothings worked. Things i've tried are:
I've went to microsoft's website and used their malicious program removal thing
I've used the symantec w32.Sasser worm fix tool 1.04I've used the Blaster worm fix tool
i've ran ad-aware (which freezes before i can even finish)
ive ran spybot
i've attempted to boot the computer in normal mode so i can run the worm removal tools by waiting for the shutdown msg to pop up and then type into C:\run\cmd\shutdown -a and then run the sasser removal, but it freezes up midway through and does not finish.
I've tried to just reformat the computer by putting in my windows xp cd and letting it boot up through that but at the same exact point in the process the computer just automatically shuts off as though i've pulled the plug. This is not a power issue or tempature issue because the computer runs fine in safe mode for hours but when I try booting using the windows xp cd it shuts off at the same exact point each time. I read on one forum that I should try removing one stick of RAM and doing it, this did not work.
I tried using a windows startup disk but when I get to the prompt and type C:\format it tells me bad command or file name.
I'm really stumped as to what I should be trying to do now... can someone help me?

Hello,I agree with Jimi_1 win xp does not validate the switch command.Use a 98 bootdisk and run fdisk and then using the same 98 disk format using the switch command.
