Good afternoon,
I subscribe to DLS using dynamic IP addresses to connect to the Internet. The speed is excellent, and the price is great but the problem is when I try to remotely connect to my computer (Windows XP Remote Desktop) it is impossible to find out my IP address.

Different events have caused to Internet modem to reset, giving it a new IP address and if I am away from my house I have not way of finding out what my new IP address is. I know the best solution is to get Static IP’s but I am getting a great discount with my current ISP (almost half off) and if I upgrade it terminates my promotion.

Is there any alternatives. Is there some kind of software that can email me my IP when it changes, maybe create a log in a secure area of my web page? Maybe IP forwarding, but my primary use of it would be Windows XP Remote Desktop. I don’t mind paying for the services, it is just that currently under my promotion with my ISP it would be twice as much to add Static IP’s.

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

-Mario-

So how exactly does it work? Do they give you an IP that then forwards to my dynamic? Do you have to load a client on my system?

Thanks again for your help.

You can find out your current IP Address by typing ipconfig at the Command Prompt

But if you doubleclick the little IC Icon on the System Tray doesn't that give you your IP Address for the current logon ?

If you read the info there it tells you how they do it. They take your IP info when you log into the site and they give you a static IP thru their server for as long as you are logged on.

It's pretty straight forward and I think you'll like it.

To answer your question, yes you do have to run a little dynamic updating client on your machine, but it loads as a service and you never see it,

works awsome, where ever I am I always know my new static IP will be MYMACHINE.serveftp.com

OH Yeah, it doesn't give you an IP number like Example 202.35.101.2 it gives you a static IP reverse name with a domain of you choice example

yourname.no-ip.com
or
yourname.serveftp.com

There are many to choose from.

I have the same problem with my DSL service. At any time my provider can change my IP so I use the IP Tracker. You'll have to install a program that runs in the background, but once you do you can always get your IP by going to the URL assigned to you.

Unfortunately this program isn't free. It'll cost you $20.
