It all completely depends on what you are running and how you have your machine set up. Everybodies start list is different. You first have to decide what programs you want on tap and then go from there.

Personally, I don't like to auto run accesory programs. They can be started at easily at any time and the more programs on the start list, the longer the boot up time.

If you are not sure what something on the list is, you can go to the sight that Leslie stated or you can trace the program back to its folder. Usually there is something in the folder that will give you an idea of what the module in question is.

TED, honestly, you do not need any of them. In WinXp, there is nothing that you need in there in order to start WinXP. I have everything unchecked in mine, except for my antivirus, and that's because i have multiple icons for it, and always end up picking the worng one.

But i would leave something like that checked, along with a firewall.

dont select any of them in u r start up option , as these startup files use memory resources & cos of that u shall get memory errors of low memory after work starts .
u will always notice that there r many files running behind the screen if u select ctrl+altr+del in task manager . there fore dont select any of the start ups & the performance of u r computer. this diagnose would help u r computer run fast & reliable for any software. Any more problems just mail me.

Hi, all.

Many thanks for all the helpful responses. I have unchecked everything except for my Zone Alarm and Avast Anti Virus. There were no hiccups at all, although the boot-up time didn't seem very much faster.
I notice though, that hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL still produces about twenty-five entries in the Task Manager box. Seems a lot to me.

You could look Here for a list of the services that run under XP. This site will tell you whether you really need this service running or not.
