When i start my computer it takes a few mins for programs to load on startup. I mean the program icons by the clock takes a few mins to load. Sometimes they don't even load. This is a Gateway computer. Maybe i should uncheck some of the gateway programs? I like to keep my Norton checked and the Instant Messengers.

Always a good idea to shut down any unnecessary programs. Just do a msconfig in the RUN box.

Well i just done the msconfig. Im still haveing trouble. Sometimes it even freezes up for like 3 mins and the clock even stops. Oh and my old Celeron 433 did this in XP Pro. And someone said it was because i had XP in a Celeron 433. And someone else said their p4 did his and there AMD didn't. I don't think its just a intel issue he said there may be a fix for this. But if there was it would already have been out because i check for updates with Gateway all the time.

What speed is your processor? Your Norton will delay startup and so will the messengers. Better off to open the messengers after it boots.

Capt,
I didn't get the pacs portal site from the security post. Someone removed the post from there. I really would like to get this problem solved ASAP. I did spysweeper lastnight. Found 20 spyware and 26 traces. Rebooted this morning and still have same problem. Also i was trying to do a virusscan overnight i woke up had a message virtual memory is low. Could not finish scan because my isp disconnected me guess because i was connected over 24 hrs. Man i be glad when i get dsl. But anyway it must not be spyware. Im just about to the point of reformatting. I have ghost backups on CD'S i will use if i do that. But i don't want to go that route because there XP Home and im useing XP Pro. Also i have alot of programs on the D drive thats not backed up. Oh and i got that startup monitor it would not even open. What is it susposed to do?
