i have a k6-2 500 mHZ cpu with 256 mb of ram running xp, and my computer is really slow. start-up is pretty slow. when i'm playing avi movies it doesn't run smooth. when im surfing the net and using 4 browsers at the same time its pretty slow. is there anything i can do to make my computer run faster??

I don't know about making your computer running faster but i do know how to make win xp boot faster well atleast it worked for me just update your bios mine went from 3 min to 10-15 seconds hope this helped a little

this is kinda basic, but you may check to make sure you don't already have several programs running at startup. Ctrl-alt-del and go to Task Manager, it'll show the programs and if you go to the Processes tab, it'll show any services running and how much cpu usage they have, you may be able to find the culprit if something is using up a lot of processor speed.

Use Sisoft Sandra to check your hardware. Perhaps your video or memory card is slow. I found that using 8-bit graphic display was SLOWER (!) than 16 bit display. 32-bit display mad no difference on my hardware. Also - turn on 32-bit hard disk drive access if you can. Use a permanent virtual memory might help, as well as ScanDisk & Defrag.a new
