Is there a startup folder in XP that is similar to Win98?

A lot of unneeded programs are starting each time with my XP and MSConfig gets rid of them for a while but they keep returning.

Intuit and Norton are two of several that do this no matter how I configure their installations.

Had the same problem in Win98 but going to the startup folder and removing them always seemed to work. Cannot find a startup folder in XP though. Thanks

I've got one on mine. If you right click the Start button and select Properties, you can switch to a clasic start menu like 98's and it is easier to find the startup folder. Or you should be able to find it by browsing through Windows Explorer.

Click on my computer,
Then click on C/Drive
Then C:\Documents and Settings
Then folder with your name on it
Then start menu
Then programs
and there's your start up folder
No doubt there is a quicker way to get to it but it's how I do it.
Cheers

In case you donīt find the App you are looking for in startup folder, Iīm going to tell you, how to free up some system resources, thatīs to say, there are many unusfull Appīs that are loaded when windows starts, between them, the ones you are saying. This is where you have to enter and what to do.

---Click start button

---Highlight run from the bottom of the window and click it

---A box will appear in the space provided in the box type services.msc and then click ok

---Wait for the service window to load

---As an example here is how to turn off the -portable media serial number service

---Look in the list for portable media serial number then highlight it

---Right click on it and then select properties

---When the properties window has loaded find the start up type drop down box and click disable

---That's it, when you restart next time this service will not be loaded

Remember to take your time doing this and I hope this helps.

I use the "autorunman" program that I downloaded from this link.
http://www.rudenko.com/autorunman.html
It is great and works on XP and 98. I use it so much that I actually sent the author the $10 that he asks for. You can download and use it for 30 days free. It finds ALL the stuff that runs at startup and you just uncheck what you don't want. I LOVE IT. WORKS GREAT. Can't tell you how many problems I've solved by turning off unwanted garbage. Nowadays, people download so much crap from the Internet onto their machines and many programs start something running at startup. Every one of them is another opportunity for conflicts. I HATE IT. Try this program and let us know how you like it. It finds lots more stuff than you'll find in MSConfig. Try it.
