Before going out of town on a trip I last used my laptop last Saturday - everything was fine. Returned today and at startup I consistently get an Exception error screen immediatley after the Compaq logo appears. The system is a Presario 700 laptop with 240MB running XP/Home. It's worked fine for the almost 2 years I've had it.
The system was left unplugged while away (eliminating any theories about power surge isues). However, it was still conencted to my home's LAN.
The screen that comes up has the following info:
Trap 00000006 ======Exception======
TR=0028 CR0=00000011 CR2=00000000 CR3=00000000
GDT LIMIT=03FF BASE=00017000 IDTLimit=07FF Base=00017400And there are more codes after these.
I have already run MEMTEST86 and no memory errors appear.
Is there a way to runa bootable equavalent of CHKDSK on XP/Home, and if so, how?
Any other ideas?
At least I back it up every month, so I only have to go back 3 weeks. But it still means being out of date by 3 weeks.
Thanks,
Art
