I'd really appreciate some advice here as to what I should do next. Ok, well I am working on my sister's boyfriends laptop and I already cleared it of a bunch of spyware (using adaware, spybot and cwshredder). When I initially tried booting it up, a system file was missing so I had to do a recovery. When I finally got it to boot, I get these errors every time I boot up. On the first message, I can just hit OK and it's gone. On the spywareguard message, I hit ok and it closes spywareguard. I tried re-installing and got the same problem. In regards to the "Windows has recovered from a serious error message" if I click don't send or send, it just keeps popping up again and again. I can put it down almost out of sight and everything seems to run fine, but this worries me especially because of the mysterious missing system file I mentioned earlier I had to do the recovery on. So, I was wondering what to do next. I was thinking format and reinstall because I'm worried the problems may keep arising. For some reason notepad.exe is also missing. It's easy to put back but it makes me wonder how it disappeared. I did a full virus scan and it said I was clean. So if anybody has any better ideas, I'd be willing to hear them! I really appreciate the help!

Kevin

Well, I'd never done a recovery before so when I was doing it I hit r for recovery at the initial welcome to windows screen before I accepted the license agreement or anything. Then I read up on it a little more and noticed that I was supposed to hit enter then accept the license agreement and then choose recovery and everything worked out fine from there. Turns out there was not even a password on the administrator account after all because I logged into it just to check after I got access to the operating system. I really appreciate your help though!
