Starting programs problem

I moved my PC from one room to another. When I turned it on, I noticed that most of the programs that normally started with the PC are not seen in the tray. Why? Could a simple physical moving of the PC cause software troubles? I doubt it. There must be another reason. What could cause the startup programs not to start?

I have the same problem too. I found out that if I wait about 10 seconds after the login screen appears before I log in, all the programs will be in the tray.

I don't have a Login screen. No multiple accounts on my machine too. I believe that the programs are running but the Tray is not showing the icons. I am not sure, though.

Yes, the programs are running but they do not show in the tray. I did what Tufenuf suggested and it didn't help. I guess a complete Windows re-install is on the way.

Tufenuf, thanks for the link. I just re-installed Windows XP and if the problem still persists after this fresh reinstall, I will try one of those methods to solve it.
