When I boot up each morning, it takes about 5 minutes or so after boot up for me to manually start other programs. This appeared after I had virus, but my consultant seemed to fix everything but that. The few programs that are in StartUp do start right up, but anything else I try, in Task Manager, says is not responding. Help? Thanks.

hi,
have you tried adware removers like :
Adaware personal = www.lavasoftusa.com
microsoft antispyware = microsoft.com
spybot S&D = http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

i recommend MS antispyware though
if you want to remove startup items or removethem go to run then type msconfig. click on the startup tab then untik what programs you dont want to startup
hope that works ;)

Ill go my own way...

How
to Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP

To help troubleshoot error messages or other
issues when you cannot determine the cause of
the issue, disable common startup programs,
settings, and drivers to eliminate possible
software conflicts when you start Microsoft
Windows XP. This procedure is known as
"clean booting."

How to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting in Windows XP
and that one is a heavy duty article.

To find out what each Startup(or Process) item
does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process:

their software product.
