Is it possible to set windows up or use a third party service/app to start a program when the computer is idle, or even better when the internet is idle.

My wife and I share a computer that I use quite a bit of background processing on with various downloads and software building. The issue is that she shuts down my software so that it doesn't bog her down while she's working on the computer, and then forgets to start it back up. If I could find a program that would start things automatically for me after a certain amount of idle time that would be great.

Thank in advance for any help!

not that i know of ... but there programs available that run virtually any application as a windows service which would make it harder for your better half to shut them down.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

It's definitely possible since there are many apps that can be configured to run when the computer is idle, but I don't know of a tool that lets you configure any app to do that.

A quick Google search turned up these apps that will start an application when the screensaver starts or a specified time thereafter. Of course, your wife would still need to shut down those apps when she wants to use the computer - but they should start back up when the system is idle.
