This computer had virus scans run _Avast Anti-virus, Ad-Aware-AVG and CCleaner run on it and it had detected some viruses. upon moving everything I found to vault, I restarted the computer only to find that I can't log on. The welcome screen eventually comes up and when I click the user name (even in safe mode) it acts likes it's logging on then the saving settings pops up and it logs me back off(while staying on the same screen. How can I get past this and get it fixed. I don't know a whole lot about computers so be very detailed in your answers please! Thanks! Kristin

krhinky, suspect one of your scans perceived a critical Windows file as a threat and put it in the vault. Visit for a list of 'musts' @:

Compare with what's in your vault and correct as needed. BTW, if you find one, each of those scans allow you to denote 'exceptions' so it doesn't happen again.

Ed,
Thanks for your response. I will gladly take your advice when I get my problem fixed and can actually log on to my computer. As is is right now, as I stated before, I get to the log on screen it starts to log in then immediately logs me back off. I need to correct this problem before I tackle anything else.

Any advise on that issue?

Can you boot to Safe Mode?

I can boot to safe mode but with the same results. Windows log in screen appears. I click user name, it logs on briefly (not long enough for desktop to appear) then logs me back off.

You shouldn't get the Welcome screen when you boot to Safe Mode. It should inform you that you're running in Safe Mode and then bring up a two-line authentication.

it says safe mode and allows me to login as an adminstrator or as my usual login name..then the same thing happens...any way around this?

Is this a problem I can fix?

Is there some way to restore everything to another (previous) day? or just fix what is wrong?
