Start up mode is acting weird

I used Msconfig to change the start up to load everything. Then when I tried to change it back to selected services it just keeps going back to the everything loaded option. What can I do about it? Plus even before that when I was getting the selective programs to run one wasn't running, I'd need to start it manually.
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

The problem is back and I think it has something to do with Registry Mechanic. It started afterwards and I realize could just restore a backup but I've had lots of spyware recently and am worried if I restore any of its recent backups it could bring back more of it. So is there a program or registry thing I can do to solve this because I like to be able to use msconfig.
