Hi, can anyone help? I dont't know why but every time i start windows my hard drive decides to check itself using the consistency checker. I have let it run twice and it takes more than 3 hours to finish!! but when i turn it on again it again starts checking for hd consistency. i can cancel it by pressing a key, but i was wondering if anyone knows how to stop it checking everytime i turn on my computer? And why it is doing this? my hd is 50% full ind is a 80gig fat 32.
Thanks for any help. :-)

Hi Sam,
▫ StartUp Control Panel (Mike Lin)
Use this program to control what gets started when XP loads. I'm assuming you're talking about scandisk or chkdsk when you say 'consistency checker', so look for those two in the startups.

This happens when you get an serious error, that results in a blue screen, when there is a power failure or turning off the computer from the power supply power switch.
When any of these thing happens to a FAT32 file system, it does need to check if any of the data is corrupted.
The only way I know to get rid of this problem is to convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS file system.
Use this web sites search funtion and search for "convert fat32 to NTFS" for instructions

boot into windows, try to do it. This happened to my old machine, and i just decided to let iet run... When you do get into Windows, do a Defrag of the HDD, then run scan disk again, making sure it sorts out any errors, and run it again, go have sex or play golf or something whilst it's doing it. I did this (and for the record, sex is better than golf) and it worked :)... good luck
