Comment:

Out of the blue, the start menu stopped showing up.
To illustrate, here's a picture:

(In that screencap I have clicked on the start menu).

Any suggestions? Registry problems? I tried to run system recovery, and it didn't help.

Thanks in advance!

Go here and look for the vbs file "restore start menu" or something like that.

Did you use 117 left side?

Yes, that exactly.

I noticed something else:

From the properties of the start-palk (or what is it in English, right click-properties in the blue area) I can change into the "win xp mode" (I normally have the "traditional view" of the start menu) view of the start menu, and then it opens up. However, the same problem remains when trying to view "all programs" (I edited out the programs I have, to protect my privacy :D)

If that doesn't work suggest SFC /SCANNOW from the run option. You will need the xp cd.

The problem isn't quite the same, as the menus are not only transparent, but also nonexistent :P As in I can't open anything inside the invisible frames :D

I notice from your jpg have opened your Explorer File and edited it. Your green start menu button has your name on it maybe? Did you change any other values apart from the name in Explorer that is on your start button?

Ah, should have mentioned of course:

"Käynnistä" is Finnish for "Start". It's a Finnish installation of Windows XP home, and I haven't edited any values...
