I did a factory restore recently. Then I switched to DSL for internet. Lately, after I click on the welcome screen and get my desktop, I click on the Start Menu and it is frozen. I have to wait a minute before it is activated. What's happening?

Could be driver conflicts, corrupted software or virus.
Here are some points to try....

1) Run an AV scan
2) Check device manager for conflicts.
3) Run in safe mode - running ok here would suggest a device driver
4) Run msconfig in the RUN box, click Startup tab and disable ALL startup items.
Now reboot and see if u still get freezing.
If all ok now, u can by trial and error re-enable the items 50% at a time to catch the culprit
5) Open Event Viewer and check for any errors that coincide with the startup time

Also try running sfc /scannow in the RUN box to check/replace any missing/corrupt system files.

GoodLuck

Some apps have given me this problem. Specifically when dealing with tracspancys.

Network links definatly give this symptom. As it pauses contacting the other machine especially if the other machine in any kind of powersaving.

I have tried sfc /scannow which will not run. I have disabled all start up services and that did not help. My Start Up menu after I click on start, comes up, but after I click on any program, it freezes.

There are errors in the event viewer under Service Control Manager for the times I tried to click on an application on the Start Menu. What does that mean?
