Comment:

I need to update some firmware and it requires that I restart in real DOS mode. How do I do this with XP?. I have tried a Win 98 and Win ME start disk but the C: drive is not accessible even though it's FAT32.

Thanks,
Steve

Are you 100% sure that your C:\ is Fat32 ?

I see no reason why C:\ wouldnt be accessible when using a Win98 bootdisk, I use a Win98 bootdisk with XP all the time to access DOS,

Load up your Win98 bootdisk and type FDISK then press option "4" to view your partition info see if it says FAT32 in there.

use a win 98 startup disk...

while it is stating up, press f5 key...
it will now bypass your starup files and give you just a "pure" dos command prompt..

when I was lurking around the %system32 folder, I found two files, cmd, and command (that is, if you type them in run file, it would be two different things. "cmd" is the emulating DOS for xp, and "command" is the real DOS
