how do i start my computer in command prompt so i can erase win xp and put win 98 back on with a partition

Did you try putting in the Windows 98 cd and booting of the cd?

jordan the way your post is set out leads me to beleive that you don't have the experience to attempt what you want to do, forgive me if I'm wrong.

You need to start your computer with a boot disk, format the C: drive and re-install the OS of your choice. That is put very simply but it is essentially what you have to do.
