Have you gone to the Starcraft WEBSITE to see what their product support might offer you as a solution. One option is to partition, so you can dual boot and have you old OS running to play Starcraft. Another option is to run it in XP's uncompatible software mode.

This may sound simple, but have you tried cleaning and wiping the CD in case anything there like a smudge is preventing StarCraft from reading the required file? This happened to me and doing a simply wipe and clean did the trick. BTW: StarCraft IS compatible with all known versions of windows, except Windows 1.0-3.11.

i am having the EXACT same problem with my CD, it keeps sayin that it cant read a required file, but i also installed BW and it wont run with the BW CD either so a dirty disc is very unlikely... =/ i went to blizzard.com and couldnt find anything... if u can find a fix PLZ email me at pikarak@hotmail.com with the fix, hope its not a bad idea to post email.. =/

the very first game i bought for my computer was starcraft. It's not even running in compatibility mode. I have no problem whatsoever. Getting it to run on my win98 is a horror story...I haven't been able to get it to work yet
