...just picked up my free copy at the store today. If you're on dial-up and don't want to wait a couple weeks to get the CD from Microsoft, you might want to check it out.

Mary,
I believe some other stores were to have them available as well, but i just happened to be in Staples today so i asked. I was surprised when the clerk said they had a big box of them back in the computer section. Sure enough, they did.
Jim

Thanks for the heads up , I will try the Staples here in Hamilton
Thanks!!

darkmanx,
Everyone gets a free copy of SP2, whether you choose to download it, order the CD from Microsoft, or pick up a copy at a merchant who is distributing it (like Staples)... there's no charge. At least i hope there isn't, seeing as how i just picked up the CD and walked out the front door with it. LoL.

You can now Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD for FREE
If you cannot use Automatic Updates or download SP2 via Windows Update,or like me just do not want to download such a large file - order the CD.
Microsoft will ship the CD to you free of charge. This CD includes the same Service Pack 2 software that is available for download from Windows Update.

Considering the size of the download (80MBish) this seems to be a better option....

Mary,
It's the same CD either way... the one i got from Staples is in a Microsoft mailer. Whatever's more convenient for you... they're all free. I just didn't want to wait the couple weeks to get it in the mail. I did a clean install of XP last night, then loaded SP2, and i have to say it's been working great so far. No problems!
Jim

Staples in the UK (or any other store for that matter as far as I know) are not giving the CD away. PC World will provide it as part of thier service contract only.
Mary, You will not deal with MS - but will use XP! How odd.....

You read too much into my reply. We are talking about the SP2 CD in this discussion, not the entire MS offering :-)
