Since I'm running XP on my pc, the feature to put my pc in standby seems to be disappeared. I checked everything (power settings, display settings,...) but nothing helps. I can see the standby button in the shutdown menu but the buttons is grey and I can't push'em. Also when I hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE I can see the standby-feature but this one also seems to be dissabled. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem.

Standby is now a laptop function only. All you can do on a desktop is to set the allotted time before the computer goes into stanby mode.

Not true at all ... you should have a standby option on the shutdown window. Might want to check your bios settings and about 50 other things...

I have the grayed out stanby problem also...

Here's what I know so far. There is supposed to be a "Hibernate" tab in the power options off of control panel. If you dont have one is is because WinXP thinks your MOBO does not support APCI functions (so my theory goes) I fear that the reason the option is not available for me is that the APCI function was not enabled in the BIOS at install time (see APCI overview in the winxp help pages) I have re-installed winxp once (after I enabled APCI) and still no Hibernate or Standy. I have Epox 8KHA+ and I am 98% sure that the Advanced power options support hibernate and standby. Could anyone out there with the same mobo let me know what BIOS settings you used if you have the hibernate and standby options available...

Anyone figure out a registry setting to turn this on after the fact???

to fix the Hibernate Problem here is what I did. Start > Right click My Computer > Left Click Properties > Hardware > Device Manager and then click View Menu > Show Hidden Devices. Then look for one that says "T/APM legacy support" and see if it has a red X for no drivers or disabled. That is what my problem was. Did that and it worked just fine after a restart. You should be able to go in and enable Hibernate after that.
Good Luck

I have the same problem... my standby button is disabled.

I am also running on an Epox 8KHA mobo...

I have tried everything mentioned here, and no luck. All the ACPI functions in my bios and device manager appear to be fine. I'm all out of ideas!

I have 2 computers side by side, put xp on both. Each has epox7kxa motherboard, and one hibernates, the other doesn't. I've been thru all bios settings, even flashed upgrade both bioses. Still one works and other doesn't. I sure wish I could get it to work on the other computer as it is a very slick option. I hit the power button, 5 seconds later it's off, and when it resumes I'm back with all windows open doing what I was doing.

It was my video card that didn't support the hibernate. A different video card works just fine. I had a pci ati mach64, now I have an agp ati ragepro.

you have to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters in the registry

double click "attributes", and set the value to "0" and reboot. Standby will then be available.

Justin,

Went in the registry.. found the path you specify, but find 2 attributes;

AMLIMaxCTObjs ; with value 0000 14 00 00 00
and a (default) type REG_SZ with no value

Which one should be set to "0"...?
