Is this a USB mouse?
Who is the manufacturer?

If these are USB, then go in your device manager,Universal Serial Bus Controllers,

Highlight usb root hub/ go to properties/powermanagement/make sure you uncheck "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power"

Also on the usb controllers, make sure you check "dont tell me about usb errors".

Go to the manafacturer of your device to get new drivers, although xp drivers should be built in that work.

Good luck
