Last week I was struck with the Loveletters virus. I seem to have fully recovered except that I am unable to go into standby mode. When I try I get the message:
"system standby failed. the device for HP PS2 Keyboard (2k-3) device is kpreventing the machine from entering standby. please close all applications and try again. if the problem prersists you may need to update this driver."
I have reinstalled drivers, I have uninstalled drivers, I have updated drivers and even contacted HP (my machine is a pavilion 7975), who could only recommend a total wipe of the drive. They told me I should live with it...
One more thing, just to make my life interesting, after I get the failure message my mouse arrow disappears from the screen, though it still activates buttons, etc. I can only regain the use of the mouse by dragging it with the left button dekpressed over program icons or by turning off the machine.
Any suggestions beside wiping the drive?
Thanks for your help!

Check your stanby mode in BIOS and if you set srestore poimt and it was before the stanby update you need to go to update site and download standby update if that wont work reformat

Dont like the sound of it. Perhaps you still have a virus there. If you have lastest virus protection then you dont have a problem in that respect. However from my experience with hp pavillions I had to manually search the hp recovery cd to find the file I needed.
