Is this your first installation of Win XP? Did you notice the Standby and Hibernate features before if this was not you first installation of Win XP?

If this is your first time...
Standby and Hibernation only works if your motherboard is complient w/ Windows XP's ACPI. Even if you could hibernate and/or standby in Windows 2000 or Windows Me, it does not mean you could standby and/or hibernate in Windows XP. Try getting all the latest drivers for you computer (especially you motherboard and video card ones), and see if it appears.

If you've seen standby/hibernate before in Win XP and now you don't after reformatting...

Try getting all the latest drivers for you computer (especially you motherboard and video card ones), and see if it appears.

I don't know if this is the real solution to the problem. The solution is through my own experience, and if anyone knows a better one, then please post it up.
