This may seem like a dumb question..but does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my mouse to stop squeaking when I let go of the left button? Its a brand new mouse too :/. Operates normally though

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Light would be the operative word, as oil is not something you'd want in the actual micro switches etc.

If it's just the plastic squeaking, it'll likely wear down & stop eventually. If you really can't bear it, you can violate your warranty and remove the cover to apply some sort of lubricant - even a smidgeon of paraffin (candle) wax or bar soap

Return it for an exchange before opening it.

Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

You don't want to use oil with plastic parts. "a smidgeon of paraffin (candle) wax or bar soap" as suggested by Jboy will be ok.

My post was a tongue in cheek attempt at humour, hopefully Christopher will have been astute enough to realise that...

... well, one would hope so.

While I wouldn't presume to guess at the astuteness of folks I've never met, I would point out that these messages are read by many (many) more people than anyone could know. I'd be willing to bet somebody with a squeaking rodent just might proceed with an oiling, if not otherwise dissuaded.

I do not understand why folks spend an arm and a leg for optic mouses. I use an Inland part number H3003. I catch these at Microcenter for $5.00 USD as a everyday price. I have not experinced a single problem with any of them. It doesn't need drivers as xp sees them right off the bat. A little cleaning on the bottom is all I really have to do.
As for opening up your mouse I wouldn't do it just as was stated take it back. A part is fitted too tight.

I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...
