Ok, where do I start?

My machine is infested with trojans/spyware.

Some component is being left behind and relaunching all the cr@p I keep removing.

I've been on this for five days. I have done all the obvious.

Adaware scans and cannot remove all it detects. It has the latest updates

Spybot SD gets to about 90% and comes up with an error *Zwax (ungultiger datentyp fur)* It has the latest updates

AVG is rendered useless, and comes up with nothing.

KavAntivirus detects 52 but can only remove 48

SpySubtract w/CWS shredder detects 186 suspicious registry entries and 72 files and folders of which contain the annoyances such as Abetterinternet, buddy and Aurora, which are causing my zonealarm to popup every five minutes. When I choose delete the entries, I get an error message that says "SpySubtract has encountered a problem and needs to close....."

I have hit this from all angles and have not been able to get rid of these problems.
It's like all my antivirus and antispyware programs are useless.

I am one day away from reformatting the HD.
I don't want to do that.

Please any help is appreciated.

Would you like to see a Hijackthis log?

I'm not a computer newb, but I don't know how to handle this one.

Thanks for any help

Matt

Turn off System Restore in XP and boot into safe mode. Then run all your spyware and virus programs. After you're clean, boot back into windows and enable System Restore again.

yep turn off system restore by right clicking My Computer....properties, then system restore and shut off all drives.
The go to TrendMicro,Bit defender, or Kaspersky online virus scanners and they will get rid of these. But when this is all over, please get a real antivirus program. AVG is a joke.
Kaspersky, Bit defender, Nod32, or PC Cillan (Trend Micro) are all world class and of course they are, you have to pay for them!!!!

Rich Mentzel,

I have downloaded Kaspersky and have a 30 day trial. I am finding out the hard way about AVG. Would you recomend paying for the Kaspersky over other so called "top of the line" AV progs. such as Norton?

Thanks for your help guys.

Personally I use Kaspersky...again I recommend Nod32 and Bit Defender but not Norton. Norton is like a can of sludge in a system, it's annoying, drags and it can almost never clean a file whereas all the others mostly can. Deleting or quarantine is fine until you hit a real rpoeblem with say a Windows System file. I mean you need to cloean those files not delete them!
