Since some ass decided to delete my post, I will repost it. I have a spyware problem I cannot fix, and I posted an Inquiry this morning. I got two responses from a Very Nice gentleman, and followed his instructions by posting the requesed log from Spybot. Then I come home from work to see what solutions have been offered, and my post was deleted. So here we go again.

I have spyare on my system that randomly shuts down my Computer, open web windows when I am not even using explorer, and interferes with Outlook Express. I have used CWShredder, SpyBot, AdAware 6.0, and System Mechanic 5 Pro. None of these programs have been able to eradicate this menace. I need help as the problem is getting increasingly worse. I even did a MicroTrend Online Scan. What can I do?

Shawn,

I see you list "AdAware 6.0" as one of your resources. Might I suggest, that you get the new Ad-Aware SE 1.05,{6 SE} and also the latest update for it. Just checking, is the SSD updated as well. What are the pages, that try to load/do load? Is your OS/browser updated? {security, critical, ect.} Do you run/use a firewall, besides the one in WinXP? Have you used anything precisely, to check for trojans? Any new program(s) installed, just prior, to this/these problems?

Someone will have more questions, I'm sure.

Shawn, the reason that your post was deleted probably is because someone here asks you to. The policy of the forum here (per the administrators) is to not post logs because of the large amount of space they consume.
Lurkswithin's suggestion above is the best, and if that doesn't work out, here is another great site-post in the Security/Malicious Code Forum.

Sorry-correction above (the coffe hasn't hit me yet) its 7AM here:
"Shawn, the reason that your post was deleted probably is because someone here asks you to." should read:

Shawn, the reason that your post was deleted probably is because the forum policy here is that logs may be posted only if someone here asks you to. Plus the fact that this post should be in the Security and Virus Section.

lurkswithin,
That website that analizes the HiJackThis log file is fantastic. What a great site, thanks for sharing that link.

Raincheck: the website that Lurks refers you to is indeed a great help for those who do not know how to read a HT log. Be aware that this site is not infallible. Sometimes it will target entrys that are legit, and othertimes it will not target entrys that should be deleted. Also, I am not sure how it will react to the variant of CWS that is a morpher and has hidden entrys; that one must be handled in a particular stepXstep way or you will never get rid of it.
But it is great for a fast starter.

It is a good starting place. As a matter of fact, that link is actually provided at the confirmation screen whenever someone starts to post their HJT! log - although you'd never know it:

DO NOT post a HiJackThis log here unless an expert has requested it. Instead, please ask in plain english about what is wrong with your computer. You also may want to look at the automated HiJackThis analyzer by clicking here.

Thanks. Ni I did not post any logs until I was asked to do so by the Gentleman who answered the post. I will try this and see if it works.

Actually, now that I went to the site you mentioned, I have used it 6 times now, and each time I select the remaining things to delete, it does not do it. I follow the instructions, but when I reboot, the stuff is all right back. AARRRGGHHH!!!

It's preferable, if a log is requested, to post it in that thread to avoid confusion. I don't know if you did or not, but a log posted on its own is almost guaranteed to be deleted, as per site policy.

One wonders where the 'Gentleman' is now.

When attempting to remove items, have you shut off 'System Restore'? Have you tried from Safe Mode?

wHEN i TRY TO DO IT IN SAFE MODE, NOTHING WILL LOAD. Then I will get random Not Responding errors. I followed the links, did all that and used the tutorials, but there are a few wwwcoolsearch things still lurking around. This is startig to cause random BSOD's to, so any help anyone can offer would help. Could someone take a look at the log?

Coolsearch indicates Coolwebsearch - pretty nasty. Recommended is CWShredder - this is the new version - it may be prudent to backup your hosts file.

You may want to post your problem in the Security & Virus forum rather than this general XP forum.

Provide a detailed description of your problem, and what steps you've undertaken to correct it. You can request that someone examine the log, but posting it otherwise is not recommended.

As well, there are numerous forums offsite that specialize in HJT! logs (Spywareinfo, Spyware Warrior, Tomcoyote, Computercops... many many more)

I realize this is pretty frustrating, but very often these problems prove difficult to resolve
