First - Heres my screen shots:

Whenever I open IE, it opens to that page (grr2.jpg), even though I set it to google.com every time. Also, even though I delete it, I get those four items in my favorites menu (between the red stuff in grr.jpg)

I've ran AVG Free Virus scanner, Ad-Aware and that Adware scanner that microsoft bought from Giant and offers free on their site. I just can't get this freaking thing away. Anyone have any suggestions?

Or better yet, anyone know how to make Firefox fully functional on WinXP? I installed it before, but it was laggy as heck, and a friend told me something that Microsoft has something fixed where any browser other than IE won't work well.. or something.

I also use firefox . and along with adawareSE , I also use spybot .. and I too dl'd the microsoft anti-spyware tool... The new version of firefox 1.01? is what I'm running right now .. I'm also using XP... pro... with Sp2 and all the updates..

No problems>> here... of course I would suggest Hijack this... and pasting your log file into this link here

I also use these programs... However ,,, Sounds like Norton may be the culprit for some of your problems ,, Could be the resources it needs to do it's thing... for scanning files and memory on startup.. ,, Have you checked,,,, event Log.... right click , My computer > Manage> event viewer and ,,, what shows up? under , System...

Sorry about the norton's that was in another post.... However ,,, the spyware blaster link is another program I also use ...

If you suspect a trojan afterwards there are free trojan scanners that may also help ..

Zekryn, you've gotten some good suggestions. Here's another. A lot of home page highjacking is driven by ad revenue on a 'per view' basis and certain unscrupulous folks change your homepage to increase the number of hits on their page.
A program called Spybot Search & Destroy gets rid of malware like Ad-Aware and uses a different data base. Sometimes one will find something the other misses so I use both.
Another feature that Spybot offers is called 'immunize'. If selected, it'll lock your homepage and block any attempt to alter it.
Get Spybot @:
http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/index.html
(be sure to get V1.2 or better. Their home webpage is often busy.)
There's a V1.3 tutorial @:
