Hi Guys,
I am helping a friend remove spyware, specifically, igetnet, and have not been able to get rid of the damned thing. I ran both uninstalls, looked for familiar keys in the registry, and looked for the dlls listed when doing google searches. Yet, no matter what i do, the host file gets rewritten. Is there anyone who can help me out? This is the most sophisticated spyware I have ever run into....
Thanks for any help.
J

This will do it:
at most computer stores,
including Office Depot, Office Max:
Spyware X-terminatorI have check Pest Info in it, and several
IGetNet
pests are listed.

You need to turn off system restore and then go to
http://www.trendmicro.com
use their free online spyware/virus scanner.
it will remove it for you
IN THE MATTERS OF STYLE,
swim with the current;
in matters of principle,
STAND LIKE A ROCK

You may find the M$ Bets utils at:
http://www.download.com/Microsoft-Anti-Spyware-Beta/3000-8022_4-10353597.html
will do all that's neeeded.
Likewise the standard utils:
AdAware (be sure you get the util that is the freebie - there is one very similarly named that is NOT free and it's not as good);
cwshredder;
ccleaner
may also resolve it?
Turning off system restore during any clean out routines is also wise...

Hi
Just as an aside, try running your spyware removal
application (I use AdAware and SpyBot on Windows
machines) with Windows in safe mode. If the spyware is
loading when the machine starts up, it can be very difficult
to remove in normal operation mode.Also, install startupcpl and startup monitor (use google -
the author is Mike Lin). These give you full control over
what programs are run when Windows loads.Oh, and finally, get a mac. Or linux. ;-)
Good luck
Andy
