Hey All!
My computer became infected with two pieces of spyware.
PIB.EXE and TSIB.exe(I think) as well as
wtools.exe wtoola.exeSomething like that.
They were sets, because if in task manager I stop one, the other would restart the process making it impossible to get rid of it.
In the end I had to go to safe mode. But in removing those files(and only those files) it seems to have killed my DHCP Client.
I can no longer get an IP address off my network, all the other machines can get an address and if I set the addrses manually it will communicate with the internet.
Has anyone seen this before? Spyware that kills your computer when you remove it?
(It was definitly only the spyware I removeD)
David

Yes, they are out there. Many are variations of the Cool Web Search hijacker. Another baddie is a LOP scumware that embeds itself in the LOP and if you delete it you break your internet connection. AT this point it probably is easier to just do a repair installation of XP.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;
Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.

You could take a look at some Winsock repair options
Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience
