I did an online virus scan by " stoplight" it says i have a backdoor.irc.sdbot.795 applicanion now it wants me to buy it to remove it. pandaware or adaware doesn't find this. I am wondering if they jsut say that to get u to buy their software for removal.
Any thoughtsThanks

It sounds like a false postive. Most trials do that so you buy their product. If you need good FREE software that WILL remove things just click on the red link.
That's why I never do Trial scans.
Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

This is classic scaremongering tactics used by companies to get you to purchase their products. I always advise people to stay away from any software which offers a free scan and then charges you to remove it. Over 90% of machines will have some sort of spyware on them anyway so the odds are stacked in the company's favour.
I would try http://housecall.trendmicro.com or download the 15 day trial of CounterSpy from www.sunbelt-software.com, update it and run a full scan. Its very good software and well worth the small subscription IMHO.

Two good spyware programs that are free are Adaware 2007 and Spybot search & destroy. One of these may even find and remove whatever it is that is infecting your system, if anything. Find both at the link below.

Did you mean Stop-Sign?
Note on eAcceleration Stop-Sign: eAcceleration's Stop-Sign anti-malware scanner was listed on this page primarily because of the company's history of employing deceptive advertising and drive-by-downloads. The company was also known for removing and/or disabling competing apps. These objectionable business practices were employed primarily during the years 2002-2003.
Sometime during 2004 the company underwent reorganization. Not only have the worst of the company's download and installation practices been halted, but the company has completely overhauled its stub installer application, giving users much more control over the software modules to be installed on their system.
While testing indicates that the "threat scanner" is still slow and has occasional problems with false positives -- in large part because of the use of heuristics, which cannot be turned off by the user -- we can no longer classify this application as "rogue/suspect." Nonetheless, this anti-malware application -- at least in its current state -- cannot be recommended, given the many excellent competing anti-virus, anti-trojan, and anti-spyware applications that are available (some for free).

Thanks I actually use pandaware online scan and i think its pretty good. I just saw stop sign advertised on the tv and tried it.Pandaware is easy to use just kind of slow.
Thanks
